Great area for wildlife, waterfowl and eagles, if you are patient. Lots to see and do - seagulls, Blue Heron, river otters, osprey, pelicans, eagles, moose, bear, fishing and canoeing. One of our photos below (GTCB.23) has an American Bald Eagle and either a juvenile eagle or Golden Eagle in the trees. The Snake River runs through the area and into Oxbow Bend. There is a family of 4 otters in the image below - can you spot them? They are dining on a fish that the eagle couldn't seem to catch. The theory is that adult eagles, with a wing span of about 6-8 feet, aren't very adept at fishing (as evidenced by some of the photos below). They prefer to intimidate the osprey with a near collision, in attempt to get the smaller osprey (4-6 foot wing span) to drop the fish. Both the eagle and osprey fish by plunging into the water, feet first, and using their talons to catch the fish - but the osprey apparently does a better job of actually catching the fish!
