The Cub Lake trailhead is located in the Moraine Park area of Rocky Mountain National Park. There is some available first-come, first-serve parking and there is bus service available to the area as well. Cub Lake is a nice destination hike and lunch area or the trail continues beyond the lake over to The Pools for a picnic by the waterfall. From The Pools, you can either hike further up to Fern Lake or retrace your steps back to Cub Lake via the trail. Another option is to take the trail out of The Pools which is a nice hike too. Following this trail will eventually lead to parking lots where folks who drove in parked and hiked from that point. The shuttle bus does not travel that dirt road into that parking area for hiker pick up. Follow the dirt road from the car parking areas. It's about a mile from the parking lots to the bus pick up shuttle point. There is covered seating available and restrooms. You may wait to ride the shuttle there or elect to walk the short distance around to the Cub Lake parking area. The buses will drop you at any of their scheduled stops along the way and on up to the interim shuttle bus parking (near the Sprague Lake entrance). Then change buses to go on up to Bear Lake if that is where you parked your car.
