ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK - Helene Lake - Odessa Lake - Fern Lake Trail
Helene is a smallish lake with mountain peaks, reflections and wildflowers. Odessa Lake sits at the base of mountains sometimes referred to as the little Matterhorn. There are mountain vistas and wildlife. Take the trail cut-off back into Odessa. There is a meandering stream and bridge that you will cross over to reach Odessa - great lunch spot and fish'n hole. You can re-trace your steps back out to the main trail and continue on to Fern Lake. If you go past Fern Lake, you will eventually come out at The Pool - a waterfall and serene little resting spot. You can veer off and take the Cub Lake trail back over to Cub Lake and on to a shutttle bus parking lot or hike out on the Fern Lake Trail. If you started at Bear Lake, you will have to catch the shuttle buses to return you to the Bear Lake area. They are available about every 20-30 minutes during the summer.
